Go-kart champ in GSAT gear
Winning the Jamaica Karting Association (JKA) Rotax Mini Max Trophy this year, was like a dream realised for 11-year-old Jonathan Law, who intends to now ease off the gas pedal and continue his preparation for next year's GSAT examination.
"The win means a lot to him," his father, Sammy Law, told Automotives on Friday.
Law is one of the youngsters who motorsports legend, Peter Moodie, said has benefited tremendously from the sport.
"He has improved both academically and in the sport. This year he calculated everything and strategically planned," the elder Law commented.
Three years ago, the grade-six Sts Peter and Paul Preparatory School student won his first major trophy in go-karting when he snatched the Comer 80 cc title.
As father and son look forward to the international circuit, the elder Law is hoping to have Jonathan parade his skills for a year in the Mini Max Class before seeking authorisation to be promoted to the upper class.
Young Law's ambition is to become an engineer, but at the same time has eyes set on racing Formula One cars professionally. He wants to emulate Britain's race driver, Lewis Hamilton, whose achievements are a motivation.
"After his exam in March, we will begin looking at some race meets on the international circuit," said Sammy Law, who has hinted that his son may acquiring a spanking-new kart for the occasion.
