Ricketts traded to Montreal Impact

The Los Angeles Galaxy have sent goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts to the Montreal Impact in exchange for allocation money, the team announced yesterday.

The move comes after Ricketts found his opportunities limited in 2011, thanks to injuries and the emergence of Josh Saunders for the recently crowned MLS Cup champions.

Ricketts has spent three seasons with the Galaxy since joining in December 2008. In that time, he made 70 starts, keeping 27 shutouts, including a club record 11 in 2010. He helped the Galaxy to the 2009 MLS Cup final and was a two-time MLS All-Star, in both 2009 and 2010.

The Jamaican international was hampered in 2011 by national team duty and an injury sustained in midseason, appearing in 15 of the team's 34 games, recording seven clean sheets and posting a 0.77 goals against average.

For Montreal, Ricketts is the second signing of the day after the team picked up midfielder Davy Arnaud from Sporting Kansas City in exchange for left back Seth Sinovic and allocation money.
