LONDON (AP):

England captain John Terry could be one step closer to being charged for racially abusing a Premier League opponent after prosecutors said they have received a file about the case from police.

Terry has been accused of directing a racial slur at Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand during Chelsea's 1-0 loss on October 23.

After investigating the incident for the past month, London police have passed on the file to the Crown Prosecution Service, which will now consider whether there is enough evidence to bring charges against the 30-year-old defender.

Terry, who was questioned by police this week, said the alleged comments directed at Ferdinand have been taken out of context.
