Mavis Bank and St Elizabeth in for a treat
Jamaica Broilers and Glory Music will present a Christmas Special Gospel Concert tomorrow at the Mavis Bank High School, and on Sunday at the Black River High School.
The musical showcase includes Carlene Davis and friends and features Jabez, Septimus, Ricardo Smith, Deneese Wright, and the Black River High School Choir.
This concert series is part of a new thrust being pursued by Glory Music, to bring wholesome entertainment to high schools and their communities this Christmas Season.
"We are extremely delighted to bring Carlene Davis and Friends to these communities and schools. This is a wonderful way to remind people that even though this has been a rough year for so many, there are still many reasons to lift a joyful heart this Christmas," said the Reverend Father Dr Barrington Buchanan, principal of Black River High School.
"We invite patrons and lovers of music to come out and enjoy an evening dedicated to lifting up our voices in praise this holiday season," he said.
Davis is expected to perform songs from her wide repertoire which will include songs from her Christmas albums, notably Santa Claus (Do You Ever Come To The Ghetto), Put Christ Back Into Christmas; and from her gospel albums renowned hits such as This Island Needs Jesus, Forever Friend, Threshing Floor, Handful of Salt, Elijah, and her new recording, Nobody Greater.
Other soulful selections
The dynamic Jabez will have on his set Drinking From My Saucer and A Nuh One Prayer Me Pray. Septimus with thrill audiences with Carry Go Bring Come, while Deneese Wright and Ricardo Smith will enjoy new exposure of their talent to these audiences.
The Black River Choir, past winners of the All Together Sing Competition, was a favourite in this year's competition and is expected to bring a lot of excitement to the stage. The MC at the concerts will be St Elizabeth's native son Tommy Cowan.
The events, which are done with additional support from The Gleaner Company Ltd, Phoenix Printery, Arm Bands Plus, Black River High School Performing Arts Group, and Mavis Bank High School will have presold tickets available at the schools.
