Pilots agitated about overdue payments
KINGSTON (CMC):
Pilots at Caribbean Airlines (CAL) who work with Air Jamaica, which was taken over by the Trinidad carrier in July, are said to be getting increasingly restive over unpaid monies due to them.
The pilots, who are represented by the Jamaica Airline Pilots Association (JALPA), brought attention to the matter earlier this week.
They said the airline had assured them payments would be made over a staggered period, starting on December 20.
JALPA said the airline also owed them their performance-based salary since August 2011.
Earlier this month, the pilots were blocked from taking strike action after they threatened to stop flying during the lead-up to Christmas.
The matter between the pilots and CAL was referred to the Industrial Disputes Tribunal, which issued a stop order against JALPA, with respect to this dispute.
