Impressed with Holness' graciousness

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I wish to congratulate Prime Minister-designate Portia Simpson Miller upon winning a landslide victory in the recently concluded general election.

The people have given you and the People's National Party (PNP) the mandate to govern the people of Jamaica for the next five years. I sincerely hope that both the PNP and the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) will seek compromises to resolve the issues for the good of the people and Jamaica, rather than gridlock on the issues based on a partisan basis.

I was very impressed with the professional manner in which you and Prime Minister Andrew Holness accepted the win and loss, respectively.

This is a time for the parties and the people of Jamaica to mobilise and focus on the issues to advance Jamaica's social, economic and political development, regardless of party affiliation.

Also, we can still use the expertise of Danville Walker and Sharon Hay-Webster to continue to serve the people of Jamaica in whatever capacity they can.

Good luck, and a prosperous new year to you and the people of Jamaica.
