JEEP: PNP project or JLP rebrand?

Published:Wednesday | January 25, 2012 | 12:00 AM

What stands out to me is the fact that MPs will be "selecting workers". MPs have no business being involved in the hiring of workers. This is what leads to the corruption, party favouritism, victimisation and 'politricking' that is the death of this nation.

Let the NWA hire people and leave it at that. MPs are supposed to be representing their constituents as they contribute to policymaking and legislation for the development and good of their constituents and the nation as a whole, not out winning future votes by hiring labourers. Same ol', same ol'!

So they [JLP] criticised crash programmes, yet had one of their own. LOL. Jamaican politicians are too predictable.

- Guest

If this is so, as The Gleaner is reporting, it is deception of the highest order and blatantly lying to the Jamaican people. Forget about Mr Azan, this buck stops with the prime minister.

It is one thing to have a programme (JEEP) and intend to use funds from another programme (JDIP) to fund it. That is somewhat understandable, but it's another thing entirely to simply relabel another pre-existing programme and tout it as your own.

This is totally disingenuous, and deceitful. It is also staggering to note that it is considered balanced to give 70 per cent of available jobs to supporters of your own party, and to boast about it, after campaigning with a theme of inclusion.

- Enquiring Mind

Why are MPs doling out jobs? This is so retrograde. Undoubtedly, we are reverting to an inferior state!

What the hell? Will it benefit the country? That's the only question that needs to be answered, not who initiated what. Move along with the pettiness and put the country first.

1. The PM must respond immediately to the allegation 'Stolen parts' used in JEEP' and prove Shahine Robinson wrong.

2. If the PM takes too long to respond, her credility and integrity will be seriously damaged.

All you Labourites getting your panties in a bunch, know this:

The mismanaged JDIP funds arose from a relationship with China cultivated, and the loan initially negotiated, by the PNP.

This is the point. No need to talk about how the JLP benefited from initiatives like the 'Spanish invasion', adequate NIR, Falmouth Pier, etc.

- Roanja

The JLP should have made its plans known; it didn't. This does not change the fact that PNP is using the same programme and rename it JEEP.

Jamaica needs stability, but this election has just brought to the fore how vindictive we can be against each other. As the weeks and months pass by, we shall see the real truth about these new and not-so-new people.

- Lavern

A programme of this nature should never have been subjected to the political affiliation of the people! If you are advocating an emergency employment programme, the persons selected should be evaluated based on NEEDS. Why would you proudly state that you want to strike a balance between both sides? Why should one's political preference be considered?

- Shan

I don't care where these ideas come from and from whom, as long as at some point people can see jobs being created. This is sour grapes - no more, no less. Instead of both parties slinging mud, why not join heads and help the country and those who still live here work toward a better future?

- Trevel

I am flabbergasted! So the programme was one initiated under the JLP that NO ONE knew about until now. That just speaks to the public-relations disaster that the JLP represents.

Had the JLP announced that it had $340m for work, to make people 'eat a food', I am sure the outcome of the elections would have been different.

Now how about the method used to select persons, it's pure unadulterated politicst. Persons are selected on the basis of their political colours and not based on their needs .

Why did we not have a needs-based analysis done to determine who gets work vs your political choice?
