WESTERN BUREAU:

Angella Bennett celebrated her 40th birthday last Saturday night on the grounds of the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium, and luckily for the RIU Resorts director of sales, there was no need to employ an entertainer.

Trinidadian soca queen Destra Garcia, who had promised new flavours from her already impressive menu, was the unofficial guest artiste. As far as the Jamaica Jazz and Blues main stage was from the RIU skybox, Destra's scintillating performance rocked the booth, topping the annual birthday soirée above previous years.

There was no need for speeches during this celebration, all in attendance have come to love this special live wire of a woman, who herself has so much love to give.

Destra's energetic performance and eye-catching costume contrasted with Bennett's demure black and red off-shoulder dress. While the soca queen commanded the main stage, the tourism queen commanded the RIU skybox.

Until another year, and another Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival, we say Happy Birthday Angella!
