Tuesday Talk

1. Some in the Opposition are now saying some in the private sector, now giving the party electioneering advice, need to give it a break as they were the same ones who advised the party to hold on to its former leader, Bruce Golding, at the height of the Dudus/Manatt scandal last year. When they were consulted, the private-sector leaders had advised the party to stick with Bruce, rather than boot him to the curb!

3. Some are crying shame on the manner in which some official residences were treated by vacating officials after the election. The word is many of the official residences were trashed to the point of vandalism. But what many are finding distressing is the fact that some of the previous occupants left with government property; with some replacing the original artwork and antique pieces with inferior object.

4. Whispers are that the businessman who headed the foundation has stepped aside and his replacement has been identified and the replacement is a shocker to some as the name being bandied about is that of the young lady from the prominent family in tourism. Members of this family were once thought to be card-carrying supporters of the Labour Party. The story is, the family switched their support over the last two or so years.

5. The real story out of the Cabinet retreat is that the country is really in a mess. Word is there is no money in the national kitty; funds for new projects are in very short supply; and the JEEP might not have enough fuel to go around the island, so the country might be in for a period of belt-tightening rather than constructive engagement. They say what the technocrats are saying is that the driver basically crashed the bus before jumping off, and it will take some creative management to get the bus back on the road!

6. Her friends say she is a 'klepto', others are not so kind, they say she is just a thief. And they warn not to leave credit cards, chequebooks and, more importantly, cash lying around or even in your pocketbook when she visits, as those who do are still bemoaning their loss, while she's been busy living high on their stolen money!

7.Seems like some of the backers of the previous administration are only just coming out of their post-election defeat slump. Story is that all the champagne that was supposed to be used to toast the JLP's victory on election night but went unused, while the food went in the dustbins, came out last Sunday for the Super Bowl celebrations, but the partying was said to be a few decibels lower than the last.

8.The silence by some members of the former administration is welcomed by others. Some are hoping that former colleagues will take a page out of this playbook and say if they must be seen, they should not be heard!
