International reggae artiste Damian 'Junior Gong' Marley, is now a LIME ambassador.
In an elaborate media conference at the Bob Marley Museum last Wednesday, LIME's chairman, Christopher Dehring, announced the Welcome to Jamrock singer as the newest member of the LIME family.
LIME is no stranger to using members of the music industry to market their product, however, Damian Marley is the biggest to date.
According to Dehring, LIME will stand to benefit from the Marley partnership because the leverage of Junior Gong surpasses the reach of LIME.
"I hope that Junior Gong can take us on his back across the world, we are just a small brand in comparison to the Marley brand," he said.
Dehring also said that the company had wanted to initiate partnership talks with Junior Gong a long time ago but that artistes with the stature of the Liquor Store Blues singer were hard to pin down.
Junior Gong, during his short speech, said he was grateful for the opportunity to be an ambassador.
According to the singer, it feels like a new movement.
"Thanks to the fans who support us so that we can become popular artistes, so that corporations like LIME will look at us this way and create a partnership with us," he said.
"Give thanks to the people of LIME for taking us on this adventure, this is something new, and I don't think something like this has been done on this level, let alone in reggae music before," he said.
As a part of the two-year contract, LIME will have exclusive access to information related to Junior Gong's musical journey.
Fans can gain access to such information through a special web portal http://limeportal.ogangi.com developed for smart phones and other mobile devices on the LIME network.
The artiste will also make special appearances at LIME events across the region throughout the period.
Members of the media and guests also got the opportunity to view the video for one of Junior Gong's more recent singles titled Affairs Of The Heart via LIME's iPhone.
