CHARLESTON, Nevis (CMC):

Police in Nevis reported on Saturday that they had identified a "person of interest" in the February 9 robbery of United States (US) Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer while vacationing with his family and friends.

Police spokesman Sergeant Alonzo Carty said a gardener in the town of Gingerland is the suspect.

Without giving details, Carty cautioned that anyone found aiding the man will be prosecuted.

Last week, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confirmed that it was assisting police in Nevis in its investigation of the knife-point robbery of Breyer, 73, and his family.

"We are assisting the local police with their investigation," said FBI spokesman Paul Bresson in a brief statement.

Around 10 p.m. on February 9, Breyer, his wife and house guests were robbed by a masked, knife-wielding man, who got away with about US$1,000 in cash.

No one was hurt in the incident and the robbery was reported to Nevis police shortly after it happened.

Breyer is a regular visitor to Nevis, having had his vacation home there for the last 20 years.
