This was no ordinary Toyota Startlet that made its debut at JamWest Speedway in Westmoreland last Sunday, making its presence felt with the amount of power it put to the tarmac.

Western Bureau:The highly anticipated JamWest drag-racing event, which took place over last weekend in Little London, Westmoreland, was quite a thrill for fans who turned out in large numbers to witness fast motor vehicles battle on the speedway.

Montego Bay's Drag Race Nation member and driver André Kerr was the crowd favourite with his customised Toyota Corolla, which defeated every competitor he came across in the 12-second category with his excellent driving and 20-valve turbocharged engine packing 350 horsepower.

"I am very happy for this win at JamWest, and to consider that the car is not running at its full capacity," said Kerr. "We still pulled out the win among these other fast cars. It was absolutely great."

Kerr, who failed to make the finals last year, said that disappointment helped to motivate him to work harder to win this year. His victories went down well with the crowd, who cheered him as he made his way to the pit after his final race.

The meet was not without its fair share of drama as driver Oneil Wynter, who drove a Nissan Pulsar, experienced a huge disappointment when his gearbox fell apart on the tarmac as he was about to race.

"It is very disappointing not being able to race after getting to this point. I got through to the second round when I competed earlier today and to not finish is just disappointing," Wynter said.

This incident resulted in an oil spill that took close to 20 minutes to be cleaned and have the tarmac ready for races again.
