Right on the heels of the highly successful second annual staging of the Jamaica Poetry Festival at The Louise Bennett Garden Theatre, Edutainment Promotion will stage the increasingly popular POMEDY show at The University of Technology (UTech) on September 14 at 7 p.m. The event is being staged in association with the University of Technology as part of its Jamaica 50 celebrations. POMEDY is an officially designated Jamaica 50 event.

The show will feature Oliver Samuels, Oral Tracey, Joan Andrea Hutchinson, Dr Michael Abrahams, Rohan Gunter, Richie Innocent, UTech Drummers, and Yasus Afari, a past student of The College of Arts Science and Technology (now UTech).

The concert is being staged in support of UTech's arts programme and is also being supported by UTech's sports programme.

Part of the proceeds will be used to install a life-size chess board in UTech's Sculpture Park. UTech's president, Professor Errol Morrison, will be the guest of honour.

POMEDY will include participation from other tertiary institutions such as the University of the West Indies. The chess board, for instance, will be created by students of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.

The hope for POMEDY is that it will be held yearly, alternating location from campus to campus.

POMEDY is sponsored by the JIIC, Visual Vibe, Mona Graphic Printers, and the Victoria Mutual Building Society. Tickets are available at UTech's Student Union; New Leaf Vegetarian Restaurant ( Lane Plaza in Liguanea); and Bookophilia, 92 Hope Road.

The POMEDY show is an eclectic mix of Jamaican comedy and poetry which provides clean, intelligent fun for the entire family and community.
