God, gov't and legislation
Apostle Steve Lyston, Contributor
The continued disregard for biblical principles in governing the nation, and the fight to totally secularise it, is causing grave problems for and within the nation, and is affecting every sector. This is so because the Bible was the original foundation for politics, government and the formulation of legislation.
Let us look at Isaiah 32:22 which says, "For the Lord is our Judge, The Lord is our Lawgiver, The Lord is our King; He will save us1." This speaks of judicial, Legislative and executive systems of government. It also shows that Jesus Christ is in everything; so there is really no separation of church and state. The Bible governs both the church and the civil society. It should be the primary source of instruction and of establishing all institutions. No nation can be blessed if God is not their Lord; and the true measure of success or blessings is not financial abundance!
Daniel 2:21 lets us know that God has the final say in all things, including the governing of a nation at any level. The electing of a leader for a nation is not just about formulating political strategies. God allows things to happen for the fulfillment of His purpose - whether we see what that purpose is or not.
Romans 13:1-3, but especially verse 1 says, "Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God." Thus, God ordained civil power, hence the civil power is accountable and subject to God! God instituted civil government to manage human affairs, and the Bible is a guide to civil government on how to carry out their tasks with fairness, justice and integrity; in the same way that the law of the land must be obeyed by its citizens once it does not go against the Word of God. Governments must also protect its citizens. Governments are God's ministers and must therefore be just, fair and must do what is good.
Legislation
All legislation was designed on biblical principles for justice and blessings to flow upon mankind, not for the destruction of mankind. Exodus 21 shows the original guide God instituted for mankind on how to deal with labour laws, murder, parental dishonour, kidnapping, small offenses/petty sessions, abortion, and theft.
Clearly, there can be no separation between Church and State. Today, every law that God condemned is what mankind is attempting to reinstitute. So instead of reaping blessings, we are embracing the opposite. If nations do not use the Bible as a guide, iniquity, debt, disease and crime will have dominion over them. (Psalm 119:33; Ecclesiastes 12:13)
Politics And Self-Rule
This arises as a result of man's attempt to be independent of God's rule and principles. (Genesis 4) Self-rule begins when man wants free choice to do whatever he wants to do, and this always leads to one losing one's original status or domain. This concept of 'free choice' always leads us into slavery and bondage, because if we walk away from God's rule, then we will run head on into another ruler. We must remember that we are God's creation and the earth is His and everything in it - whether we believe it or not. Thus if He gives His instructions on how to function on this basis, coupled with the fact that He desires what is good for us, then when we attempt to disobey and distance ourselves from Him and His principles and rule, then we are headed for trouble. 'Self-rule' in itself is a kind of deception because it indicates that we know everything and we are capable of ruling ourselves independent of the One who created us and knows us inside out; and that is not so.
When people want 'free choice', thereby rejecting God and His principles, He always raises up leaders to put the people back in line through the implementation of harsh measures. When the people cry out, He changes the times and seasons in order to bless them. If the people continue to rebel against His rule, He raises up 'Chaldeans' (Habakkuk 1:5-6). The Chaldeans of today include scammers, international lenders, Ponzi schemers, money launderers, dons and hackers.
