Harris pens sequel to gospel drama

Following both Actor Boy and Thespian Awards for the original work, Dahlia Harris has crafted an intriguing sequel, God's Way 2: Carlton's Redemption, which premiered yesterday at Stephanie Hall Auditorium, Holy Childhood High School.

Harris offers that while inspired by God's Way, the sequel explores issues of forgiveness and redemption while examining matters relating to marriage and family. She offers that the production is her attempt to develop an appreciation for how good people often make bad choices.

"It's always so easy to judge but so difficult to forgive because we often lack insight into what the other individual is going through. Maybe seeing all sides will encourage more thought and less action driven by hurt and betrayal," said Harris.

God's Way 2: Carlton's Redemption is centred on a husband whose attempts at a better life for himself and his family have only yielded disastrous results. He struggles to make amends. However, the challenges of everyday life, a wife full of resentment, along with his own guilt make his existence unbearable. When given the option of trying to overcome his troubles or the easier route of wealth and comfort, he must decide whether or not to take the right path. Harris believes that Carlton's journey mirrors the conflict faced by most Jamaican men.

"They may not be perfect but at the core of it, I honestly don't believe that most men make decisions because they are 'bad persons'. I believe that they are simply human. Am I condoning the decisions some of them make? Absolutely not. I'm just trying to offer another perspective."

A number of groups have secured benefit performances of the show to assist with their fund-raising efforts and the producers are more than happy that they have been able to contribute to these worthwhile causes.

"Once again, we have created the opportunity for not just church groups but several charitable organisations to raise funds for various activities and projects. Patrons who support the show will, therefore, not only have an engaging experience but will also be contributing to persons in need," Harris explained.

God's Way 2: Carlton's Redemption is set for a limited six-show run and will feature accomplished actors Harris, Nadean Rawlins, Ainsley Whyte and Carl Samuels.
