10 things you didn't know about Diana McIntyre-Pike
Diana McIntyre-Pike is generally regarded and celebrated as one of the island's very first advocate and promoter of community tourism. She is also known and celebrated in the middle of Jamaica as a pioneering businesswoman and philanthropist who believes in putting Jamaica first, second and third, in terms of the impact our individual and corporate decisions have on the nature and quality of life of Jamaicans and brand Jamaica. She is the country's unofficial tourism goodwill ambassador and advocate general.
Today, Outlook shares 10 things we did not know about the pioneering Diana McIntyre-Pike.
1.Diana: her nicknames are Hurricane Dee, Lady Dee, Roots Lady, Thunderbird and Mama D.
2. She is passionate about dancing - especially Latin dancing, Jamaican 'oldies' cabaret and creative. Danced with Eddie Thomas in the early days.
3. Her first career choice was the dramatic arts. She participated in the national pantomime in 1969 - Anancy and Dombay produced shows in Europe while studying hotel management, catering and tourism.
4.As an artist, she received top grades in high school and came second in an all-island school's poster competition in the '60s.
5. Loves gourmet cooking and healthy cuisine and is committed to a healthy lifestyle.
6. Considers herself deeply spiritual and is committed to her family friends and country and being a good Samaritan as a way of life.
7. Was social director at the Holiday Inn Resort in Montego Bay and started the Jamaica Chit Chat session in the early '70s which involved taking community people into the resorts to expose guests to Jamaican culture and lifestyle.
8. She loves to drive and tour Jamaica - used to do rally driving and was considered good.
9. Her roots are in Westmoreland, St Elizabeth and Hanover.
10. Loves Elizabeth Taylor's original White Diamond perfume and kept a running stock for over 30 years!
