It was a day when little bakers and everything sweet ruled. The day was March 22, and the grounds of the Seventh-day Baptist Early Childhood Centre on Job Lane in St Catherine was abuzz with activity. Books and pencils were put aside for the second staging of the school's Cake Fiesta.

It was a special day for many. There was an abundance of cakes on display, ranging from marble to fruit to plain, decorated in a variety of colours and accompanied by an assortment of donuts and cupcakes.

And they were all made by - yes, you guessed it - the students. Cakes were shaped as stars, cars, gingerbread houses, and women dancing.

"We realised that the children who are very rounded are getting through easier. Therefore, we decided to get them involved in food preparation from an early age," principal Millicent Smith told Food. "Many of the students see baking, and pasty in particular, as a more attractive option. So, this is how the fiesta came about."

Many parents were also proud of the finished products, their children's handiwork. But the overwhelming consensus was that the children's involvement in these activities will help to make them better individuals.

Here are some of their creations.
