What's your view on the Government's decision to make adjustments to teachers' leave entitlements?

If adjusting (not taking away) [study leave benefits] one can save the country billions, why are we angry? As a business professional, I have to maintain work while going for my master's. I don't get the privilege to get paid while on study leave. If all other classifications of workers can do it, why can't our teachers? Online study is becoming prominent, so let us make use of it.

I agree, because Government has to pay the teachers when they are on study leave and also pay the teachers that are teaching for them. Government needs to cut down on their spending. Some teachers leave school by 3 p.m. Go to evening class if you want to study. Other persons working in the private sector have to do it, why can't teachers?

I agree with it. First of all, teachers are among some of the highest-paid public servants. I can't understand how they get so many perks. How can you leave the classroom for one year and still collect a salary? And still collect pay in the summer! That is crazy.

- Jayson Shaw

Only a selfish person would agree with what the Government is saying. Some of the persons who are talking need to visit a school for one day and see the conditions that teachers work under and the kind of students that teachers have to deal with.

It is unjust and wrong. Teachers are already suffering, yet they want to cut their entitlement. If they do this, how will they be able to attract good teachers? These leaders are not seeing the bigger picture.

- Dayne Anderson

I am not a trained teacher, but I have spent many years volunteering in different primary schools in different parishes, assisting pupils with their reading. Whatever perks teachers receive, they are well earned.

With all honesty, look at the number of teachers that study and owe the Government. Teachers get more benefits than any other civil servant. Do what the rest of us do: balance family and work, study part-time.

- Trudi Smith

Can't teachers get a break? It's already hard enough to live off a teachers' salary and now adjustments will be made to the leave entitlements? This profession is fast becoming an unattractive one.

I foresee more trained teachers migrating. Not a good move, Government. I hope we don't live to regret this one. Boooooooo!
