Racing fans attending Sunday's race meet at the Dover Speedway, St Ann, will for the first time be able to participate in a voting system that will see drivers awarded Star of the Race.

According to president of the Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC), Christopher McFarlane, the driver who is awarded this title in each race may not necessarily be the winner, but his or her driving skills and expertise may impress the crowd.

"When they're out there showcasing their skills, we all know that sometimes we see a driver who may not necessarily be winning, but this guy is the star of the race. He's come from pit lane and finishes fourth, or it's just the most heated battle on track and he came out victorious. The crowd gets to vote for whoever they want," McFarlane said.

RANDOM DRAW

Voters are also eligible to win a prize via a random draw.

On Sunday, musical entertainment will be provided by DJ Bambino and patrons can look forward to high-flying aerial display action by remote-controlled airplanes, as well as other off-track entertainment.

McFarlane noted what promises to be the biggest draws patrons can look forward to on the tarmac.

"On the track, we'll have Peter Rae, who is making an effort to come back faster than before. David Summerbell is going to try and break his track record; last time out he was very close in a race. He set a record recently, so he is coming to go a little further. Kyle Gregg has done more work to his Honda; his engine was standard before, but it's not standard anymore. He will now have pressure on his hands," McFarlane said.

"So we will have some really amazing on-track talent. The racing will be fantastic - 17 door-banging races," he promised.

The race meet will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m.
