WESTERN BUREAU:
Great men such as American civil rights leader Martin Luther King were born in August, prompting Montego Bay businessman Dennis Meadows, who is also a 'Lion', to declare, "August is the month of leaders".
The other leaders he was referring to were Royal Shop's Andy Daswani, Last Resort's Jennifer McCurdy, and Dr Julia Harvey.
On Friday, August 23, the three along with their spouses and a host of family and friends, celebrated their birthdays in true Jamaican curried goat, peppered crab, lobster, white rum and cake style, at McCurdy's offices at Catherine Hall, Montego Bay.
Jennifer's husband, Henry McCurdy, threw the party days after presenting her with a personal aviary at their Fairfield home in St James.
Being the wife of a politician, businessman and law student, the birthday girl was lauded by Beverley Manley-Duncan for being a very understanding and strong woman, one who has sacrificed a lot to ensure her marriage worked.
"I admire your strength, as the role of a woman is not easy," noted Manley-Duncan.
Dr Julia Harvey, who was also celebrating her milestone, was very shy, but was obviously also a very strong one. She was supported by her husband, Dr Wayne Harvey.
Although it was Andy Daswani 's birthday, it was his wife Michelle who was lauded for being accommodating when her husband is usually out on a Friday night lyming with the boys.
Among the host of persons in attendance were; Venezuelan Ambassador to Jamaica, María Jacqueline Mendoza, captain of the Simon Bolivar naval ship, Anibal Brito, Ecuador's Honorary Consul to Jamaica, Cleila Barreto de Hunter, Mayor of Montego Bay, Glendon Harris, Minister of Labour Derrick Kellier, Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Phillip Paulwell, Minister of State in the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Ian Hayles, and attorney-at-law Clayton Morgan.
