Bugle, singjay, has a hit song titled Nuh Compatible, which addresses the issue of his incompatible relationship with a woman. Some persons have being speculating if the song was done for Bugle's babymother, Raine Seville. The speculations started after vulgar promotional pictures of Raine and Konshens hit the Internet. Bugle has neither confirmed nor denied the speculations. Persons can draw their own conclusions based on their understanding of his lyrics.
This song is a refreshing change to so many songs which usually deal with explicit sex exploits or 'having girls in a bundle'. It is in the same category of I-Octane's song Gyal a Gimme Bun, which highlights how he is in an incompatible relationship because he is not spending time with his woman, and getting 'bun' in spite of all his efforts to make her comfortable.
Music is important and can inspire great action and lead to better understanding of issues. In this song, Bugle helps us to understand the importance of compatibility on many factors.
Bugle bemoans that they have personality differences 'You waan go easy, But mi waan go hard'. He is a go-getter with a great drive. Obviously, he is a type A person who is greatly motivated to achieve. She lacks motivation to accomplish things. The differences run deep because she 'hype' while he is conscious and has his eyes on the 'prize'. She perceives life as one party; she was a party girl; she is a groupie always hanging around reggae artistes. She is boisterous and loud while he was not into that.
She wants to spend money recklessly: 'You waan pretty car' and is a shopaholic wanting more shoes than the famous late Imelda Marcos of the Philippines, while he wants to invest in furniture
They also have serious differences. She was into junk food while he wants 'soul food'. He concludes that it is a useless endeavour to pursue such a relationship. He makes an honest assessment and said, 'No make sense wi try, mi no comfortable, And to how mi si things wi no compatible'.
This girl does not lack qualifications because she was 'educated' but, unfortunately, she was not wise. She was not intelligent. Apparently, he was not well schooled but he is streetwise. He knew his way around because he studied at the 'university of life'.
She believes life owes her a living, 'You waan gain and nothing you never try'. She was lazy. She was a loafer. She was also envious, 'Mi cyaa believe how yo eye dem dry'.
Highlighting differences
She wanted to live off men 'cause you a wait pon dem fi mine yo' and was sexually loose, 'That's why yo end up wid a bag a man a wine yo' ... .
This is not a song that is stereotyping women. It is highlighting differences between men and women. However, it would have been good if Bugle had identified that he, too, had faults and she must have some saving grace. I-Octane's song is a more balanced song on a problem relationship.
Nevertheless, Bugle's song is powerful and should be listened to by persons in relationships. Persons need to analyse honestly their relationship and decide whether it is worth going forward. It is important to have similar attitudes towards financial management, setting goals and working towards achieving them. It is also important to ensure that your partner gets along with in-laws. Sexual looseness and unfaithfulness will cause problems in a relationship and these issues have to be confronted truthfully. These issues will determine whether you are compatible.
