Papine's squalor

Published:Monday | November 11, 2013 | 12:00 AM

Three weeks ago, quite unashamedly, Venecia Phillips, councillor for the Papine division of the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC), and a gaggle of bureaucrats were parading before television cameras the cleaning of the Papine Market.

They removed tons of garbage from inside and within the vicinity of the market. The stench was high.

They remembered the market, and its state, because it was World Food Safety Day and, according to the officials, Papine Market was in proximity to two universities and a teaching hospital.

But Papine's squalor transcends the market. The entire square is garbage laden and vermin infested. And the market is quickly returning to what is was three weeks ago.

But squalor and stench don't worry the KSAC!
