Church failing to instruct secular leaders
Steve Lyston, Contributor
Now more than ever, there is a need to address critical issues impacting life on the globe for which politicians have increasing demonstrated they either have no clue in dealing with, or have remained quite ineffective in solving.
All they are doing is trial and error. We are even now seeing nations signing peace treaties which are only there to strengthen the enemy's hand for the world to become an even more dangerous place.
Most secular leaders are now walking in open deception without realising. Some of them will bring God's judgement on the nation, the economy and even remove the hedge of protection around the leaders and the nation.
The question that many are asking, "Why are there so many religious leaders surrounding global leaders and there is no change? Why is that?"
In days gone by there were teaching priests like Hilkiah who would instruct nations and kings on the laws of God and the dos and don'ts. (II Kings 22: 8- 14)
II Chronicles 15: 3 says: "For a long time Israel has been without the true God, without a teaching priest, and without law."
It is the Church that should be instructing the secular leaders on how to administer justice, how to have a peaceful nation, how to bring reform, how to help the poor and needy and how to bring about a reduction of crime and hopelessness; so that peace can be maintained within the nation.
Civic organisations
If we look through many of the civic organisations and rights groups, and see what they are doing, we will recognise that they are doing what the church should be doing, but that is because the church leaders have failed.
God requires everyone (including leaders) who call on his name, to walk in light and must be a reflection of his light!
The lamp stand God commanded to be in the temple was always to be lit - thus the light would always be shining on the people. (Exodus 27: 20) However, in I Samuel 3: 1-3, it is clear that the lamp was almost out and should have been replenished in keeping with the directive of God.
In addition to that the same scripture reveals that the eyes of the leader in the temple began to go dim. So there was no open vision - they became blind. This is similar to what is taking place in the world today.
However, take a moment to recognise that it was before the light went out, that God called Samuel. So He put Samuel in place before the temple and thus the nation plunged into utter darkness and chaos.
The problem that exists within the United States, the United Kingdom, Jamaica and the remaining Caribbean countries, many are blaming the politicians. However, the politicians are not the problem, it is the church leaders; many of the church leaders are not truthful to the secular leaders.
Let it be clear that a person can be a church leader - leading thousands and be very influential, but they don't KNOW God! (I Samuel 2: 12) The sons of Eli were priests but the Scripture says they did not know God.
Holy spirit
It is the responsibility of Holy priests (pastors/bishops) to atone for the sins of the nation. They must be led by the Holy Spirit, not by philosophies and opinions.
Oil must always be in their lamps; they must always have a fresh revelation from the Word of God for secular leaders.
They must live holy! If they don't then they will always lose the battle as did Eli's sons.
Secular leaders will plunge into further error that will bring judgment on everyone including the priests.
When a nation fails to serve God, they will eventually serve un-Godly nations.
God is light! His nature, essence and character are light, and light brings direction, provides physical energy for the development of life.
Many are calling for the resignation of Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington, but each person needs to examine him/herself. He is doing a good job with the resources that are given to him.
What the government should do is shift Peter Bunting from the national security ministry to investment and commerce and add to the portfolio, entrepreneurship.
Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller should also promote Julian Robinson to minister of national security. He would better serve in that area.
