'Let's celebrate our students!'

The smooth sounds produced by saxophonist Verlando Small and pianist Jon-Joseph Nepal were the perfect backdrop to what was a wonderful evening of good food, great wine, and exceptional company, as Professor Nigel Harris and his wife, Yvette, threw open the doors to their home for a holiday cocktail party on December 19.
The vice-chancellor's residence on Long Mountain Road, College Common, Mona, was bathed in a sea of lights with the garden decorated in red, green and gold, the colours of the season. The towering almond tree in the backyard, with its long, protruding branches with beautiful lights attached, enhanced the ambience for the gathering of academics and special guests.
In his opening remarks, Professor Harris implored guests to be thankful and that the party was to congratulate 2014 Rhodes Scholar, Timar Jackson, and the other students in the gathering. "If we are going to celebrate anything, let us celebrate our students! It is also the time of year that, despite the challenges throughout the year, there are still things we are grateful for," he noted in closing.
There is nothing like the intimacy created by an expertly hosted dinner party, and the mood of the gathering was just that, as guests mingled and exchanged pleasantries throughout the evening.
Guests were able to enjoy a wide array of scrumptious offerings that included herbed roasted breadfruit, fried bammy, alfredo pumpkin pasta, Indian chicken, coconut fish, roast beef, ham, and vegetable spring rolls. To accompany these, the bar had a wide selection of libation.
