The Montego Bay Orchid Society could not have chosen a lovelier day for their 23rd Annual Show and Sale last week Saturday. They also chose what many agreed was the perfect venue for hosting the event - the Bellefield Great House and Gardens, overlooking Granville in St James.

Orchid and gardening enthusiasts turned out in their numbers to buy plants and pottery and even clothes and other accessories, as well as spend the day relaxing and enjoying the pleasing atmosphere. The Montego Bay Orchid Society also received overwhelming support from its sister societies, namely, the Jamaica Orchid Society, the Mandeville Orchid Society, and the Ocho Rios Orchid Society.

Public relations officer of the Montego Bay Orchid Society, Tasha Cooke-Davis, told Outlook that she was pleased with the turnout and was happy that it turned out to be an overwhelming success. "The show definitely has been a tremendous success. The exhibits were very good, with a wide range of flowers, and the sales exhibits were also very good. And I think that the turnout has been reasonably well. As usual, we would like to have more people attending our show, but patrons are supporting the various stalls, which is also very good," Cooke-Davis said.

"The venue is beautiful; it is serene; it is peaceful and it really provides for the patrons a relaxing environment," she added.

She said the event, which has been patronised by persons of various age groups over the years, has always been a welcoming place for children.

"Orchid hobbyists are of varying ages and, therefore, we cater to a wide age group of persons. And because of the location of the venue, there is a lot of green space and so it is nice for kids to come. There are lots of tables and chairs for people to sit down and have a meal. So you could come and spend almost the entire day relaxing here," she finished.
