It was a nail-biting four hours of play to see who would walk away with the trophy in the Half Moon Rock Resort's 50th anniversary tournament last Saturday. The Montego Bay resort is celebrating two major milestones this year - the 60th anniversary of accommodating international and local clientele and the 50th year of offering the best of golf in the region.
At the end of play, which kicked off at 10 a.m., Montego Bay-based destination-management company Jamaica Tours Limited walked away with the trophy. The We Care for Cornwall Regional Hospital (CRH) Foundation also received $2.25 million from proceeds of the event. The cheque was handed over to CRH's chief executive officer, Anthony Smikle, and We Care's Denny Chandiram and Paula Kerr-Jarrett, during a small, intimate ceremony.
Several corporate Jamaica companies, complemented by international counterparts, supported the Charity Golf Tournament which had 18 teams vying for the trophy and other team and individual prizes from the resort as well as two return tickets for travel from Kingston to London on British Airways, plus a catamaran cruise from Island Routes.
This effort, which was also in partnership with the We Care For Cornwall Regional Hospital Foundation, will see the money raised going towards the purchase of a ventilator for the western Jamaica medical facility.
