Make a statement

The accessories you choose to wear tell a story - they tell your story. If you are a 'girly girl', you may be drawn to bejewelled pieces that give a princess-like look. Are you someone who believes that less is more? If so, you might be drawn to minimalist pieces. And if you are bold and edgy, then you may be drawn to accessories with daring or more punk-rock influences. It doesn't matter what your style is, the right accessory can transform your look from drab to fab in no time.
Accessories are the most effective way to stay on trend without having to spend a fortune. The right accessories can instantly glam up an otherwise casual look of jeans and a T-shirt. Of course, like anything else in fashion, the key is exercising restraint. The other key is to make sure you're comfortable and confident with your selections and have fun!
Harmonising
To achieve an expertly styled look, you need to harmonise your accessories:
Choose similar textures in shoes and bags
Match perceived weight in jewellery (dainty with dainty/chunky with chunky)
Stick to cool or warm tones
Have a repeated element of style or design in pieces
Mixed metals:
The rules for accessorising change periodically. For example, once thought of as a fashion faux pas - mixing silver and gold is now allowed and widely encouraged- referred to as 'mixing metals'. This ensures that the look seems effortless and not over done.
Layering jewellery
The art of layering necklaces takes some practise:
For a minimal effect, layer delicate shorter necklaces with slightly chunkier, longer ones.
For a bold look, layer chunky necklaces that rest right on top of each other, but ensure they have something connecting them.
Arm-candy jewellery:
This is not only for teenagers, but also for the woman who wants a fun way to express her free spirit and adventurous side. Mix colourful stretchy beads with small leather straps, or add a small charm bracelet or crystal stretchy bracelets to give some sparkle. You can hardly go wrong in this category, just have fun!
