WESTERN BUREAU:

A St James man, who was reportedly held with appliances that were stolen from the Cornwall Regional Hospital, was remanded when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Forty-two-year-old Christopher Wallace of an Orange address, had previously pleaded not guilty to the charge of receiving stolen property. He is to get a trial date when he returns to court on August 11, at which time the prosecution's case file is to be completed.

It is alleged that Wallace removed a fan, a computer, a monitor and a CD player from the Cornwall Regional Hospital. On being spotted by a security guard, Wallace dropped the items and ran, but was subsequently held and later charged. However, it was not disclosed when the alleged incident took place.

"Were the items found on him (Wallace)?" presiding magistrate Wilson Smith asked clerk of the court Paula-Sue Ferguson.

"Yes, your honour ... there is a statement from the administration at the hospital that is outstanding," Ferguson replied.

"Mention the matter on August 11," said RM Smith. "He (Wallace) is remanded, and hereafter we will set a trial date," the magistrate added.
