British PM to sanction MPs

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said he is determined to prepare stricter legislation governing the conduct of members of parliament.

The BBC said his declaration comes in the wake of the recent expenses scandals that has seen many MPs removed from the Government

The government is proposing an external regulator to authorize all future expense claims as well as criminal sanctions for MPs who break the rules.

Mr Brown said that Parliament must no longer be able to determine MPs\' allowances.

This responsibility is being transferred from the Commons Fees Office to an independent body.

Mr Brown said the measures could be approved by August.

He said the move will be the biggest ever reform of Parliament.
