Close to 30 Guyanese who are illegally living in Trinidad and Tobago have been given deadlines to leave the country.

The move comes in the midst of heightened debate on a new immigration policy announced by the Barbados Government.

Claims have surfaced that Guyanese in particular have been unjustly treated since the implementation of the policy.

Trinidadian officials say the Guyanese have received fair treatment.

They say individual cases have been determined and deadlines granted accordingly.

Consular Officer Denise Deano said the Guyanese were thankful for the understanding showed by the immigration department, especially since none of her countrymen were detained.
