Powell to compete in Norway tomorrow
Former world-record holder Asafa Powell will be in action tomorrow when he competes in the men’s 100 metres at the Bislett Games in Oslo, Norway.
Powell will be trying to become only the second man in history to post more than 50 sub-10 second results. Maurice Greene of the United States tops the all-time list with 53 sub-10 clockings.
The field also includes Powell’s teammate Michael Frater, Daniel Bailey of Antigua, Marc Burns of Trinidad and Tobago and Churandy Martina of the Netherlands Antilles.
Five other Jamaican are also down to compete.
They are double Olympic sprint medallist Kerron Stewart and Sheri-Ann Brooks, who will compete in the women’s 100 metres; Olympic silver medallist Shericka Williams, who competes in the women’s 400 metres, and Deloreen Ennis London and Brigitte Foster-Hylton, who are slated to compete in the women’s 100 metre hurdles.
Athletics – Jamaica’s team traveling to Cuba
World Championships quarter-miler Nickiesha Wilson and National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA, double champion Kimberly Williams head Jamaica’s team, which is now traveling to Havana, Cuba fore the CAC Championships.
Wilson, a finalist in the 400 metre hurdles at the World Championship, will run the 100 metres hurdles, while Williams, who won the long and triple jumps at last month’s NCAA Championships, will only compete in triple jump.
As expected, Jamaica will be without their big names in Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell, Veronica Campbell-Brown and Shelly-Ann Fraser.
Included in the small Jamaica squad are World Youth 200 metre champion Ramone Mckenzie, Nickel Ashmeade, who won silver in the 200 metres at the last World Juniors, and veteran decathlete Claston Bernard.
