Thousands of mourners turned out today at the Los Angeles Staples Centre in memory of the King of Pop, Michael Joseph Jackson.

The service characterised by thrilling renditions lasted for more than two hours.

It followed a private funeral attended by Jackson’s family and closest friends. From dignitaries to musical stars, the tributes flowed today from the lips of Mariah Carey, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Usher Jennifer Hudson and from Michael’s brother, Jermaine.

The former South African president Nelson Mandela sent his message of condolences and praise for the work the late pop star and so too did renowned poet Maya Angelo.

The tributes also came from one King to another - from Martin Luther King III to the late King of Pop.

However, even amid the mourning there was still anger at the allegations of sexual molestation leveled against Jackson but for which he was acquitted in court.
