Jamaica’s Javere Bell clocked a personal best 47.89 seconds but fail to get among the medals in the men’s 400 metres final on today’s third day of the sixth IAAF World Youth Championships in Bressanone, Italy.

Bell’s personal-best could only placed him sixth to gold medal winner Kirani James of Grenada, who won in a championship record 45.24 seconds.

Sixteen-year-old James won ahead of American Joshua Mance, 46.22, and Sudan’s Awadelkarim Makki Elvas 47.15.

Jamaica had a good morning session in the qualifiers of the 200-metre heats.

Both athletes in the women’s 200 metres have advanced to the second round.

Siedatha Palmer advanced following a third place finish in Heat One won by Jodie Williams of Great Britain in 23.96. Palmer clocked 25.01.

Celia Walters won Heat Two in 24.20 to advance.

Jamaica has one qualifier in the men’s 200 metres through Kemar Bailey-Cole, who clocked 21.88 for second place in Heat Six.

Waynee Hyman did not qualify following a third place finish in Heat Four won by American Dedric Dukes in 21.28 seconds.

The 200-metre semifinals will take place tomorrow.
