Regional countries to benefit from IDB initiative
Six Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries are to benefit from an Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) initiative that provides funding for 30 small-scale cultural development projects, according to a report on www.cananews.net.
The IDB said that Bahamas, Belize, Jamaica, Haiti, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago would benefit from the project being financed under its Cultural Development Programme that is aimed at promoting cultural development in Latin America and the Caribbean “by financing projects and working hand in hand as project partner.”
\"This year\'s grants were awarded to innovative micro-projects for technical training for artisans, art restoration, cultural heritage preservation, and music and art education for youth and children.
\"Taking into consideration the diversity of these cultural disciplines, the projects are evaluated for their viability, educational scope, effective use of resources, ability to mobilize additional sources of financing, and long-term impact on the community,\" the IDB said.
It said that the projects would receive grants of US$3,000 and US$7,000.
According to the IDB, the organisations to receive assistance in the Caribbean are the Boy\'s Choir of The Bahamas; the Guyana Women Artists\' Association; Fine Haitian Arts and Crafts Socio-Cultural Centre; Arts for Kids in Jamaica; the Birdsong Steel Orchestra in Trinidad and Tobago and the Way Bak Den in Belize.
