Barbados Prime Minister David Thompson is seeking to assure that no offence was intended by his government’s new immigration policy.

Prime Minister Thompson has recently been at the centre of a regional furore over the issue.

The matter ignited after he publicly declared that while CARICOM nationals were welcome they should wait for a call before seeking to live and work in Barbados.

Thompson who is the lead Prime Minister with responsibility for the creation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), contends that while Barbados remains on board with the process, it cannot commit itself to full and unfettered movement at this time.

He claims that his country’s social services are already feeling the strain.
