JADCO appealing decision to clear Brooks

The Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) is appealing against the decision of a disciplinary panel, which has cleared sprinter Sheri-Ann Brooks after she tested positive for a banned substance at the National Senior Trials in June.

Brooks, whose hearing was held this morning, was one of five Jamaican athletes named on the World Championships team who tested positive following the trials.

The other four athletes are expected to have their hearings on Friday.

Kent Gammon, chairman of JADCO disciplinary panel, said the members heard the matter in respect of Brooks and determined that based on an irregularity with the testing of the ‘B’ sample there was no conclusion, beyond a reasonable doubt to determine the positive finding of the ‘A’ sample.

Gammon said JADCO should receive his findings in writing today before presenting it to the appeal tribunal.

Dr Patrece Charles-Freeman, executive director of JADCO, declined commenting on the appeal saying it could prejudice the case.
