Ponting says Australia have the edge
Australia captain Ricky Ponting said his team has the edge going into the deciding final Test after victory by an innings and 80 runs over hosts England at Headingley yesterday.
The Aussies won the match inside three days to level the five-match Ashes series 1-1.
Australia’s victory sets up a series decider at The Oval, starting on August 20.
Ponting said Australia have the momentum going into the final match of the Oval, where his team generally play well.
He said he is encouraged by the return to form of left-arm pace man Mitchell Johnson.
Johnson took six wickets in the match, having struggled in the first three games when his 10 wickets cost 423 runs.
Ponting said Australia won the fourth Test on day one after bowling England for 102.
Final scores in the match:- England 102 and 263; Australia 445.
