US sugar supplies running out

A number of US food manufacturers have written to the United States government asking for ease on the import restrictions on sugar as they fear the country could run out of supplies.
Kraft and Hershey are among the manufacturers.
Under the current import allowances, US food firms can only import a certain amount of sugar before they have to pay tariffs.
However, US sugar manufacturers have insisted that there is no shortage of domestic stocks.
The US Department of Agriculture has also said that the domestic supplies are now increasing.
