Former Commonwealth Secretary General Sir Shridath Ramphal has denied media reports linking him to remarks relating to ethnic cleansing in the Caribbean.

Sir Shridath has expressed regret at information that has wrongly attributed remarks to him about ethnic cleansing in Barbados.

Sir Shridath, a former attorney general in his native Guyana, said a review of his speech would have revealed that he was being critical of an editorial in a regional newspaper which hinted at such a notion.

According to him, in a speech on the impact of globalization, he lamented events, which were threatening the cohesion of CARICOM and placing it at risk.
