Seventeen Jamaicans for Zagreb Grand Prix

Seventeen Jamaicans, including Olympic and World Championship gold medalist Melaine Walker, will compete at the 59th edition of the Zagreb Grand Prix in Croatia today.



Walker, who followed up her Beijing 400-metre hurdles triumph with a stunning run in Berlin, will again face Lashinda Demus of the USA.



Walker defeated Demus in Berlin, clocking 52.42 seconds to become the second fastest in history.



Today’s race also features, Jamaican Kaliese Spencer, a finalist in Berlin.



The men’s 400-metre hurdles will feature Jamaicans Isa Phillips and Markino Buckley.



Jamaican Veronica Campbell-Brown, two-time defending Olympic champion in the 200-metre, returns to Zagreb to defend her 100-metre title.



Her primary challenger appears to be her compatriot Simone Facey and American Stephanie Durst.



Three Jamaicans, Nesta Carter, Ainsley Waugh and Michael Frater will line up in the heats of the men’s 100 metres.



Other Jamaicans down to compete are Richard Phillips and Maurice Wignall, in the men’s 110-metre hurdles Shereefa Lloyd, Shericka Williams and Novlene Williams-Mills, in the women’s 400-metre, Delloreen Ennis-London and Lacena Golding-Clarke, in the women’s 100-metre hurdles and Kenia Sinclair in the women’s 800-metres.
