Sherone Simpson wins in Italy

Olympic silver medallist Sherone Simpson of Jamaica recorded her second victory in three days by winning the women’s 100 metres at the Rovereto International meeting in Italy yesterday.



Simpson clocked a wind-assisted 11.04 seconds to beat Trinidad and Tobago’s Kelly-Ann Baptiste, who clocked 11.10.



Jamaican Aleen Bailey was fourth in 11.23 seconds.



There was a one-two finish for Jamaica in the men’s equivalent. Steve Mullings clocked a decent 10.07 seconds into a headwind to land the race ahead of Lerone Clarke, 10.13.



In the women’s 100-metre hurdles, Nickeisha Wilson, 13.03, finished second behind American Damu Cherry, who won in 12.97.



Jamaican Jovanee Jarrett, 6.40 metres, was seventh in the women’s long jump won by Russian Olga Kucherenko with a leap of 6.76 metres.
