France lifts freeze on petrol prices

The overseas minister of France has lifted a six-month freeze on gasoline prices across the French Caribbean.

Marie-Luce Penchard, has attributed the higher oil prices for the decision to increase prices by $0.10 per gallon in Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guiana.

She is also seeking to assure residents that no price hikes are planned in the near future, given the economic crisis.

The hike has angered union leaders who organised strikes against high prices that paralyzed the economy earlier this year.
