Unseeded Belgian teenager Yanina Wickmayer defeated Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine 7-5, 6-4 yesterday to book her place in the semifinals of the US Open.
The 19 year old, ranked two places above Bondarenko at 50th in the world, snatched a tight first set.
Bondarenko led 4-1 in the second set but a series of errors cost her.
Wickmayer becomes the second unseeded Belgian to reach the semifinals at Flushing Meadows, following the progress of her idol, former World Number 1 Kim Clijsters on Tuesday.
Clijsers, who has come out of retirement to play in her first Grand Slam since the 2007 Australian Open, plays defending champion Serena Williams in the semi-finals tomorrow.
