IAAF gets Semenya's gender tests

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) says it has received the results of gender tests on South African runner Caster Semenya.

However, the IAAF says it is still reviewing them and will not issue any final decision until November.

The IAAF did not confirm or deny Australian newspaper reports that the recently crowned women’s world 800-metre champion has male and female sexual organs.

The Australian newspaper reported in its Friday edition that medical reports on the 18-year-old Semenya indicate she has no ovaries, but rather has internal male testes, which are producing large amounts of testosterone.

Semenya\'s father, Jacob, expressed anger when contacted by the Associated Press this morning, saying people who insinuate his daughter is not a woman \"are sick and crazy.\"

Leonard Chuene, the president of Athletics South Africa says all he has heard from the IAAF is that the test results will be available in November.

South African Sports Minister Makhenkesi Stofile held a press conference this morning to express his horror at the handling of the whole affair.

He insisted Caster, who won gold at the world athletic championships in August, is female and that lack of a womb should not disqualify her from women\'s competition.

South African President Jacob Zuma condemned the media, saying they had exploited Semenya, who won the women\'s world 800-metre race in Berlin.
