Authorities in The Bahamas are calling for help from the international community to curb the number of illegal migrants from Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Each year hundreds of Haitians risk their lives in search of a better life abroad.

However the Government in The Bahamas is now tightening its borders.

It says the global financial crisis has affected the nation’s economy and illegal immigration has become a major issue.

According to the National Security Minister Tommy Turnquest the large number of illegal immigrants is putting a strain on the island\'s social services, particularly health care and education.
