Jamaican Usain Bolt arrives home
The world and Olympic sprint champion Jamaican Usain Bolt arrived in the island earlier this afternoon after he capped a remarkable year by storming to victory in the 200 metres at the World Athletics Final yesterday in Thessaloniki, Greece.
The 23 year old 100 and 200 metres world record holder won the event in 19.68 seconds to equal the meet record.
The time was 0.49 seconds slower than his world record he set at the World Championship in Berlin last month.
Bolt was scheduled to compete in China and South Korea later this month but decided to bring his season to a close after the World Athletics Final because of fatigue.
He was scheduled to run the 100-metre events in Shanghai, China on September 20 and Daegu, South Korea on September 25.
Bolt will now take a six-week break.
