Grenadian authorities have issued a warning about the importation of food products that are unfit for human consumption.
The warning was issued following a crackdown on the importation of low-grade rice from Guyana being sold to consumers without proper labelling.
Head of the laboratory services at the Grenada Bureau of Standards, Leonard St Bernard said the rice is of poor quality.
An inspection had revealed broken and discoloured pieces of foreign matter in the product.
Meanwhile, Director of the Grenada Bureau of Standards said local importers requested the low grade rice and negotiated a price for it.
The importers have since been ordered to start selling the rice solely as animal feed, as it is not fit for human consumption.
