Guyana attacks
At least one person was killed and two policemen shot and injured after gunmen launched coordinated attacks on two police outposts, the Supreme Court and a secondary school in Guyana this morning.
Assistant Police Commissioner Leroy Brummell said the police responded immediately to the attacks and cordoned off an area on the East Bank Demerara, where they found an abandoned bullet-riddled car.
ACP Brummell said the security forces later found the body of an unidentified man at Dora on the Soesdyke-Linden-Highway, some 30 miles from Georgetown.
Brummell could not give a reason for the attack, but hinted that it may be linked to allegations of torture against the police in recent days.
Meanwhile, the security forces, including the Guyana Defence Force, have launched a massive operation for the men involved in the attack.
Unconfirmed reports say at least two men have been arrested.
