A Belize court has sentenced a 53-year-old Jamaican businessman to three years in jail in absentia on drug related charges.

Magistrate Sharon Frazer has ordered that a warrant be issued for the arrest and committal of Eric Mills to the Hattieville Prison if he returns to Belize.

The court was told that Mills absconded in December 2008 after he was caught with over four pounds of marijuana earlier that year.

Mills was released on $10,000 Belizean bail, but did not show up when the case was called in December of that year.
