A High Court judge in Trinidad is now urging lawyers in south Trinidad to file a constitutional motion against the State for discrimination.
Judge Herbert Volney has expressed frustration under which lawyers were appointed through the Legal Aid and Advisory Authority and said that there were no officers attached to the authority at the San Fernando High Court.
Many young lawyers have expressed concern over the fees paid by the Legal Aid and Advisory Authority.
Justice Volney said he believes a Judge should be given the power to determine fees to be paid to Legal Aid appointed attorneys, based on the length and complexity of the trial.
